Donations in Memory of Dick Ward If you find yourself at all inspired by Dick's life, you might consider emulating him in some small way. Dick gave both money and time to the causes he believed in, because he found that giving of himself was incredibly rewarding. Here are some of the ways Dick made the world a better place: Help Hospitalized Veterans has been serving America's veterans and the military community for 34 years by providing therapeutic Arts and Crafts Kits, free of charge, to VA hospitals, state veterans' nursing homes, and military installations. Dick donated frequently; you can contribute or volunteer here. The Open Door Thrift Shop in Seaford, New York enjoyed Dick's presence as the "token male" volunteer for many years. He started volunteering there after his wife, Connie, became incapacitated and was unable to continue volunteering herself. Dick spent several years with the DAV as a volunteer driver, taking veterans to and from medical appointments. He felt strongly about giving back to those who had served their country - not surprising, coming from an Air Force veteran. A list of ways to support this fine organization financially can be found here. The last volunteer hours Dick contributed were as a docent in the Cradle of Aviation Museum, the day before the accident that led to his death. He remarked that day to Connie, his wife, "I love this job!" Always passionate about aviation, he was thrilled to be able to share his knowledge of Grumman aviation with museumgoers. He is not a member of their new Aerospace Honor Roll, but surely would be pleased if you decided to become one yourself! If you're completely out of ideas, contributions towards supporting this page can be accepted via PayPal. A page of thanks will be created if and when anyone decides to do so - use the feedback form to ask for more information. |
