Art becomes Word, and it is Good

Job's Lament     Stet     Fallout     Work in Progress

I became an artist circa 1990.  Through no fault of my own, I entered the annual Juried Student Art Show at SUNY Potsdam.  Both of my entries, Titled and The Effect of Reaganomics, were accepted.

Terence P Ward's lost retroarchaeology composition, "Titled"Titled, a circular composition formed of Elmer's Glue, was sadly lost in the intervening years.  The Effect of Reaganomics, I have learned, is also a victim of the annals of time.  I recently sent an email to the person I gifted it to with the hopes of obtaining some pictures of it, and received a reply that due to her many moves over the years, the piece was just . . . went away.  Artist Terence P Ward with his signature retroarchaeology composition, "The Effect of Reagonomics," at opening circa 1990I would have been most pleased were this not the case, since this was the composition that birthed the art school of Retroarchaeology, although the word itself did not come into being until 2005.

The simple definition of Retroarchaeology is a reversal of the archaeological process.  Archaeology unearths the past, layer by later.  Retroarchaeology, in contrast, creates layers from nothing, creating a three-dimensional space that may obscure much.  It can only be completely understood through its careful destruction.  The art cannot be fully experienced and also continue to exist; a paradox in three dimensions.

As of August 3, 2005, Webring advises that they are working on the problem that results in a ton of irrelevant rings being displayed above.  Here's hoping they fix it soon!
